Strategic Partnership to Provide Real-Time, RFID-Based Information Services
on the Location, Status and Security of Cargo Containers and Shipments

OAKLAND AND SUNNYVALE, Calif – July 27, 2006 – Embarcadero Systems Corporation (ESC), which supplies technology support for over 30 percent of cargo containers moving throughout U.S. West Coast ports, recently formed a strategic services partnership with Savi Networks to implement Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-based systems at port terminal facilities throughout the United States.

Savi Networks provides information services called SaviTrak™, which leverages standards-based RFID and other Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technologies at ports worldwide to further improve the efficiency, effectiveness and security of global supply chains.

The agreement calls for ESC to implement solutions at port terminal facilities that are part of the growing global partner community of Savi Networks, which is majority-owned by Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT].  ESC also will provide systems integration of automated data collection points with SaviTrak™ information services and other supply chain management systems used in port environments.

“Embarcadero Systems has both the technical and domain know-how in port environments to help Savi Networks accelerate expansion of our network at strategic port locations,” said Lani Fritts, chief operating officer of Savi Networks.  “Savi Networks will significantly benefit from their experience and capability in port deployments and solution extensions, such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), gate automation, and integration with terminal operating systems.”

“ESC aligns itself with market leading companies that are innovating container shipping information solutions,” said Rich Beedenbender, president of ESC.  “Savi Networks is strategically aligned with our vision of integrated data and physical flow of goods, and we are excited to be a part of this new network capability.”

ESC will implement solutions at ports where Savi Networks has partnership agreements with major terminal operators.

Savi Networks’ recent port terminal partnerships include:

  • The Georgia Port Authority (GPA), including the Port of Savannah, which is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind on the U.S. East and Gulf coasts, and the Garden City Terminal, which is one of the top five container handling facilities in the United States, encompassing more than 1,200 acres and moving millions of tons of containerized cargo annually.
  • The Trans Pacific Container Service Corp.  (TraPac), which provides stevedoring services as the U.S. terminal operating subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), one of the world's largest multi-modal shipping companies.  TraPac-operated terminals in the United States handle one million container shipments (TEU’s) annually.
  • Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Limited (HWL), is the world’s leading port investor, developer and operator with interests in 19 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas.  Today, HPH operates 219 berths in 39 ports together with a number of transportation related service companies.
