SAVI NETWORKS EXTENDS RFID-ENHANCED SAVITRAK™ INFORMATION SERVICES TO PORTS IN HONG KONG AND CHINA
SaviTrak™ and RFID Network Infrastructure Now Fully Operational at Key Asian Ports to Track, Manage and Secure Global Container Shipments in Real-time
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Jan. 31, 2006 -- Savi Networks, operator of the RFID-enhanced global information service for container shipments, announced today that SaviTrak™ information services is now fully operational at major port facilities in Asia. The SaviTrak™ information service that enables automated tracking, management, and security is now commercially available at two of the world’s busiest ocean terminals -- in Hong Kong and Shenzhen (China).
Savi began developing the SaviTrak™ solution commercially in 2002 as a provider of networking technology to the Smart and Secure Tradelanes initiative, which included thousands of RFID-tagged container journeys from origins in Indonesia, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany and South Africa. The system was further refined in several other global transportation security initiatives, including the STAR BEST program conducted in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Economic Coalition (APEC) , and with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in a South Africa-to-Europe program.
The company plans to announce additional “live” trade lanes throughout Asia, Europe and South America in the coming weeks, following its recently announced partner agreements with U.S. terminal operators, Marine Terminals Corporation (MTC) and Trans Pacific Container Service Corp. (TraPac), which own and operate terminals across the U.S. West and South Atlantic coasts.
“Our information network is operational throughout Asia and other important trade lanes worldwide,” said Lani Fritts, Savi Networks’ COO. “We’re on course to continue growing our port network in 2006, enabling our customers to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their global operations.”
The core RFID networking technology has been used to track and manage more than two million shipments worldwide in defense and commercial applications. Savi Networks leverages standards-based Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technologies, such as ISO 18000-7 operating at 433.92 MHz throughout ports and inland locations to further improve the efficiency, effectiveness and security of global supply chains. The web-based information service, called SaviTrak™, provides automated alerts and reporting and other important information on the location and status of containerized shipments and their contents.
